Recently, with the development of diesel tubo-charging technology and promulgating of very sternly emission regulation, intercooling technology has maken a great improvement, which lead the appearance of many new type intercoolers. Intercooler is one of the important composition parts of diesel engine. Therefore, study on heat transfer and pressure drop of these new type intercoolers, surely has important significance of accelerating the development of China automobile industry.In this paper, the author paid more attention to a new type tube-fin intercooler which has offset fins inner the tubes. We put forward a experiment method of intercooler, designed a heat transfer and pressure drop experimental platform, separated the convective heat transfer coefficient of both cold and heat sides by GA method, then fitted the j, f model whose credibity had been proved through the experiment data. We summarized the formulas of each structure parameter and the design method of this type intercooler, then compiled a general design program which could finish the work of designing, checking and performance analyzing by VC++ programming language. At last, the effect of intercooler outlet temperature to diesel property and emision were analized by simulating different diesel rotate sppeeds and power through AVL BOOST software, changing curve were drawn which containing air ratio, fuel economy, NOx emision rate and so on to inlet temperature of diesel, all of those would provide proof to the further optimizing of intercooler.
